Limited vinyl LP edition cover Professional ratings Review scores Source Rating 10/10 9.2/10 Death to the Pixies was the first compilation, released by in the UK on October 6, 1997 and 4AD/ the following day in the United States to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the band's debut. It covered the years 1987 to 1991. It is now out of print, having been replaced by the 2004 compilation. A limited edition of the compilation also included a second CD with a live performance taken from, on September 25, 1990.
There was also another version of the limited edition, produced in extremely small quantities, that includes two rare 'Black Francis Demos' ('I'm Amazed' and 'Broken Face'). This is known as the 'Golden Ticket' version, and has GT appended to its catalog number. These demos, recorded in the apartment of producer the day before the band convened to record their full demo at Smith's, feature only Francis singing and playing acoustic guitar (and giving notations to Smith about where the other band members' parts are). The complete 'Black Francis Demos' were released as the first disc of 2004's 2-CD compilation.
The vinyl release contained all the tracks on the 'Golden Ticket' version, spread out over four 10' records. Featuring a different cover, the vinyl version was a limited edition of 9,000 copies printed.

'Down to the Well' and 'Rock a My Soul' from this session have been previously released on the Sounds Waves 3, which was given away with magazine sometime in 1988. Several of the tracks on the tape appeared in later albums (albeit rerecorded), such as 'I'm Amazed', 'Broken Face', and 'Break My Body' on, 'Here Comes Your Man' on, a live version of 'In Heaven' on the single for ', 'Down to the Well' on, 'Build High' on the single for, and a revised 'Subbacultcha' on.
A studio recording of the cover of 'In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)', from the film, features on the demo. The original 'Subbacultcha' and 'I'm Amazed' both had a different chorus line to later releases, which were both dropped for apparently sounding too weak. The removed chorus from 'Subbacultcha' later appeared as the basis for 'Distance Equals Rate Times Time', a separate song immediately following the revised 'Subbacultcha' on. A version of 'Tame' that appears on some bootlegs is purported to come from these sessions, but this is not true. References.
