Dsi Games Onto Sd Card

Posted on by admin

So if I download a bunch of DSiWare games directly onto my SD card (1g) and then later down the road want to switch to a larger SD card (2g) would I be able to transfer all of those games with a copy & paste through my computer? My fear is that there isn't any way I can transfer those games without putting them on the internal memory of the DSi and then switching my SD card out a bunch. And for that matter, what about WiiWare games. Can you copy & paste WiiWare games through your computer or would you have to use the Wii internal memory to move them from one SD card to another? Ok so I looked in the Operations Manual and checked the Data Management screen of the DSi, and there is an option to copy data from one another. I'm sure it would let you do an SD card to System Memory transfer and vice versa.

I haven't been able to do so because I presently don't have an SD card and don't feel the need for one any time soon. If larger games come out, I may invest. So I suppose the only way to know for sure is if you can download DSiWare games to an SD Card in the first place, which I was unable to find in the manual. So in summary, yes, it's possible to copy data between an SD Card and System Memory. It is unknown to me if it's possible to save DSiWare games to an SD Card. Yeah, I couldn't find an option to save the DSiWare game directly to the SD card from the DSi Shop. Also, as dothackfreak mentioned above, from the 'System Settings' 'Data Management' section you can copy downloaded games to and from the SD card.

However, it does appear to work as expected: I copied 'AQUIA' to the SD card, and deleted it from the system memory (NOTE: Unlike on the Wii, a 'Move' option is not present). After doing so, 'AQUIA' does not show up in the main menu - even after a re-boot. I copied 'AQUIA' back to the internal system memory, and the game is now back in the main menu. Conclusion: SD card support in the current DSi firmware (v1.3U) does not appear to be as fully implemented as it now is on the Wii. EDIT I took a few pictures and copied 'AQUIA' back over to the SD card slot.

I did not see any way to get audio recordings onto the SD card. The directory structure on the SD card is as follows: root/DCIM/100NIN02/ - Image files are stored here.

Naming scheme: HNI000#.JPG root/private/ds/app/random8-digithexidecimalnumber/ - Purpose unknown - One file contained: pit.bin - 47 kb root/private/ds/app/title/ - Purpose unknown - Two files contained: random8-digithexidecimalnumber.bin - 11,580 kb HNB.lst - 2 kb. Here's the truly.ty thing about Nintendo and their ineptitude with online. If you own multiple DSis and you enable both to use your club.nintendo.com account, you still can't play games you purchased on one DSi on another DSi.

When you attempt to move the game from the SD card onto the DSi you didn't buy the game on it tells you that it can't be copied. It even does this with the free browser. So once again Nintendo goes the retarded route of linking software to serial numbers instead of user IDs. So if you buy a lot of software from their store and your DSi breaks you have one choice - wait for Nintendo to fix your DSi and restore all the software for you. You can't use the other support option Nintendo offers where they ship you a new DS and you put your defective one in the box and send it back. Doing so would lose you ALL of your purchased software. It would be nice if one of the future Iwata asks segments involved him asking his developers why they suck so much at online implementations.

Click to expand.I'm using an Sandisk Ultra II 8GB (Class 4) SDHC card without any problems. However, I don't know why I'm using it (instead of one of a smaller capacity), since I don't intend to put any AAC files on it. I think most people will be fine with a lower capacity card for some time to come. Each picture file will probably never go over 100KB (so far, mine are. I doubt they get many people to re-buy software. I'm sure they make FAR more by getting people to buy new hardware revisions. I mean, how many people bought the DS lite that already had a DS?

And how many people are buying the DSi that already had a DS or DS lite? I'm sure the percentages are huge. I think the most likely reason that they don't have a way to transfer games is that it just hasn't been that big of an issue yet. There's only one color and model of Wii, and the DSi just came out.

I'm sure they'll get more and more complaints as they release new DSi colors. And by the time they release a successor to the Wii or DSi, that's when it will become a HUGE issue. I think sometime in the next year or two they'll be forced to at least publicly acknowledge the problem. Hopefully they'll have a solution in that timeframe too, though I'm less certain of that. Oh god, I just realized that even if my girlfriend gets a DSi, she'll have to borrow mine just to play any games I've downloaded.

There's another dumb problem I hadn't thought of. I understand that piracy can be a problem, but their DRM is the most ridiculous I've ever come across. I doubt they get many people to re-buy software. I'm sure they make FAR more by getting people to buy new hardware revisions.
